Did You Miss (or Catch) Soft Shell Crab Week Too?

From May 13th to 18th, the Outer Banks hosted its Second Annual Soft Shell Crab Week, featuring a variety of soft shell crab dishes at 30 local restaurants.

Soft shell crabs, Blue Crabs harvested right after they molt, are a seasonal delicacy in the area. This event, quickly becoming a beloved tradition, offers a range of culinary creations, from classic fried crab sandwiches to inventive dishes like tempura fried soft shell crab with coconut rice and grilled fruit salsa, and ginger scallion fried soft shells with teriyaki.

This event is a perfect opportunity each year for seafood lovers to enjoy these rare and delicious crabs in a variety of preparations. We’ll give you fair warning, so don’t miss out next year!

Brace for Impact: 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season Predicted to be Extremely Active

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be extremely active due to a combination of high sea-surface temperatures, the La Niña climate pattern, and reduced wind shear.

NOAA forecasts up to 25 named storms, with as many as seven potentially becoming major hurricanes. Factors such as the west African monsoon and Saharan dust storms also play a role.

Researchers stress the importance of staying prepared for severe weather.
